NIKKI: Hey guys! Would you believe it! Yesterday Jonesy and I decided to go over our scrapbook of our recent trip "Down Under" last year (and just simply reminisce) and, well, we somehow found some more pics which we thought we'd lost forever! Here's one of them....

Here we are in Geelong, Vic, which we had visited on Wednesday, August 4th, and spent half a day in, before we headed to Melbourne [link] .

Geelong is a port city located on Corio Bay (along the SW of Port Phillip Bay) and the Barwon River, 75 kms SW of Melbourne. It is the second most populated city in Victoria and the fifth most populated non-capital city in Australia. Its rich history of its development and prosperity includes being the port to the growing Western District's wool industry and to the Ballarat district's gold rush, and diversity into manufacturing of wool, rope and paper products.

It is known for being home to the Geelong Football Club, nicknamed The Cats, and to car manufacturer Ford Australia. One of its two plants (all in Victoria state) is located here, as well as the Ford Discovery Centre, a non-profit interactive automobile museum set up to showcase and preserve the heritage of the Ford Motor Company in Australia.

Did you know the Australian ute was first invented/developed here in Geelong?

See? It never hurts to learn something new....

Oh, BTW, if you're wondering what Jonesy's "pier maidens" remark is all about, he's referring to the Baywalk Bollards, part of Waterfront Geelong, located along Corio Bay. These decorated wooden bollards were created by local artist Jan Mitchell in the mid 1990s, with the timber painted sculptures reflecting local history and identities. Over 100 in number, they are installed right around the waterfront between Rippleside and Limeburners Point.

Painted in all different characters, from army band members to lifeguards, from pirates and nuns to different bathing suits styles over the years.... which does include.... various.... babes!

Yeah, I don't mind telling you Jonesy got smitten by the female bollards... then he found out they didn't return his prompts of affection! Luckily I was there to snap him out of it.... one way or another!

Ah the memories. I used to live just up that road. Well, an hour is really just up the road around here.
