Impending Doom.... or Headaches.... by daanton Impending Doom.... or Headaches.... by daanton

Today (8/18)'s iDevice photo of note. Counting down to slower elementary school zones in my locale.

While I'm not against slowing down the traffic in front of elementary schools to improve safety for our future leaders, I'm part of a small but growing mass of concerned citizens who still feel the new speed limit is just too slow.

Yes, here in Canada, we used to have 30 mph school zones. But later we changed to metric: using km/h instead of mph.

Now they want to bring back the slower school zones, set at 30km/h. And 30 km/h is way slower than 30 mph!
At this rate, we'd be better off (and end up) pushing our cars and buses through these zones than driving!

Apparently we've got lawmakers that take a lot more time amending/adjusting new laws than actually passing them.

Well, we're only just starting these new slower school zones this September and we'll have at least one school year to try them out before we pass our judgment against them or for their changing to 35km/h instead. Wish us luck.....

Last time I was in Canada, someone I was with complained about gas increasing while passing a gas station. I was about to speak up when I remembered, "Oh, right, liters."

Yes, indeed!
We Canucks are the funny people with the funny measurements....! ;p

Seriously though....

Any theories you may have as to why America hasn't adopted the Metric system as "thoroughly" as has, say, Canada or Australia?
