2012 Year of the Dragon by daanton 2012 Year of the Dragon by daanton
:iconcommentplz: :icondonotuseplz::iconmyartplz:

NIKKI: This just had to happen!

After revisiting what I did last year
[link] , I concurred with *daanton that I should do another similar salute for this Chinese new year as well. But little did I know what I'd be getting into this time around!

Since 2012 is being marked as the Year of the Dragon, why not....... a dragon? Sure....! But yours truly was going to be the canvas!

Yes, I'm once again wearing my special Mandarin dress that was gifted to me back in 2006, but do you notice I've unbuttoned it and slipped it off my shoulders and down my back?? Because *daanton's gotten Jonesy to paint a couple of tattoo-style Chinese dragons on my back!

How nice of him! And I think they look quite good...

And don't worry, Jonesy's using washable markers [link] so these fake tattoos will wash off in the shower!

And don't forget: if you, like me and my parents and other ethnic Chinese Canadians, are going to be cooking your special Chinese-style soup(s) for the New Year's celebratory dinner, don't forget to stock up on chicken broth!

Nikki's chipao or Mandarin dress, based on original design/art by :iconricepot:.

Slight error in the links. When clicking on the link to serpent symbolism click on serpent (symbolism). And you'll have to do a Wikipedia search under Chinese dragon to get the page about the Chinese dragon. Neat stuff, very enlightening.

It's okay, I found what you meant to post. :)

If you wanted a real tattoo you can always pull a Wyatt and do something simple, like the music note he had done. I did find an interesting article on wikipedia about serpent symbolism and one about the Chinese dragon. [link](symbolism). [link] It turns out that the basic lore about the Chinese dragon is based on the saltwater crocodile. I don't blame the ancient Chinese for regarding the croc as some divine powerful beast. Anyone with half a brain ought to know that a crocodile is just one beast you don't want to cross. You have a choice. Wind up as lunch or wind up with luggage.

NIKKI [:iconnikki6teenplz:]: True enough! As I told Wyatt....
NIKKI (to Wyatt): "Fine. But do not get anything too big! It's permanent, y'know?"

BTW, Wyatt still has that small tattoo to this day.

I only wanted one (or, in this case, two) to last only for the time I'll be celebrating Chinese New Year.

Thus, Jonesy's washable markers.

Wyatt's tattoo is nice and simple. Kind of like the stickfigure art employed in this game, the Kingdom of Loathing. [link] And washable is sensible. Heck, from what I've heard about this company, Inifinitink, washable may yet no longer be an option. Here's the wikipedia page for ya. [link] I'm telling you, this looks very promising.
