To quote Owen from TOTAL DRAMA:
"I wanted to believe it. I dreamed it could be true. And now the day is finally here. [...] PANCAKES!"
One of my favourite breakfast/brunch foods to have, either at home or, while I'm away, in the morning after having spent a first night at the hotel or motel!
Man, I'll never forget that famous scene from "I Triple Dog Dare You!" on TDI: there were the last three contestants, Heather, Gwen and Owen. After each of the girls got their pancakes, made by Chef... [
"That's right, genuine food by-products, served with fresh ingredients relatively close to their expiration dates!"]... it was Owen's turn, and he told Chef:
"Don't be shy, dude! Four words... all you can eat. You got the pancakes, I got the stomach."
So he gets some, but he urges Chef on for more. This gets to Chef and he lifts up the table and tips the whole pile of pancakes on top of him!
"Oh yeah, now you're talkin', baby! *chuckle*"
[Leaving Chef aghast...!
So this morning, my family and I are having pancakes, pancakes as my Dad knows how to make, pancakes made from a special homegrown recipe as Mennonites and other farmers from the Bible Belt of Manitoba make them!
"Pancakes! Pancakes! Pancakes! Pancakes!"
Now depending on how your pancakes are made, they can be light and fluffy (using baking powder, baking soda, airy unbleached flour, cornmeal, eggs, etc) or they can be flat and slightly tasteless (using an industrial-size package of pancake mix, just add water!).... now, which would YOU prefer??
Thought so.
I mean, where would Smitty's, IHOP, and, in my neck of the woods, The Original Pancake House be if good pancakes were not their watchword!"Pancakes! Pancakes! Pancakes! Pancakes! *chuckle*"
So, with a healthy helping of pancakes starting your day, I don't think you can ever go wrong. You can face any challenge of the day before you.... might even help you win TDI, right?
"I'd never win, but if I did, I'd start every day with pancakes... 'cause they're like little mini sunshines filled with yummy fun."
Uh.... yeah!
So, you can eat pancakes any number of ways: you can have them topped with fruit and/or whipped cream, you can have them with eggs, bacon and/or sausage on the side, or, if you choose to have plain pancakes, you can top them with jam, fruit sauce, or (oh yeah!) syrup! Save the best for last! I mean, what are pancakes (or even waffles, for that matter) without having at least one of them smothered with syrup??
"But all the [...] pancakes in the world wouldn't be special without friends to share them. *sigh*"
Or even the daughter of one of my Dad's brothers, aka my Dad's niece, aka my uncle's daughter, aka my cousin. She used to love our pancakes, how we make them. I'm pretty sure we wrote her a copy of the recipe....
Finally, depending on the ingredients of your pancakes, you can either eat a lot of them, or give up after six or seven! Particularly if the recipe calls for baking powder and/or baking soda: any amount in the pancakes you eat can fill you up quite a bit. Too much, and your guests/customers will end up napping in their seats at the table!
"Zzzzzzzzzzzz...."
Oh! Smells like our pancakes are ready, so if you'll excuse me.....
Pancakes! Pancakes! Pancakes! Pancakes! ...
